"I make this when it's too hot to think about anything complicated. The maple lemonade ratio is 1:1:4 — lemon, maple, water — and once you know it, you never measure again. For the spiked version, bourbon is the obvious move, and it's obvious for a reason. My twist is to use Smoked Maple Syrup instead of pure in the lemonade — just enough smoke to make it interesting without losing the brightness. Try it once, and it becomes the default."
Maple Arnold Palmer
The Arnold Palmer is already a good idea. Add a pour of Sugar Bob's Pure Vermont Maple Syrup, and it becomes the drink you make a pitcher of and don't apologize for. Sweet, tart, and cold — exactly what July calls for.
For the maple lemonade (1:1:4 ratio):
- 1 part fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 part Sugar Bob's Pure Vermont Maple Syrup (Amber Rich)
- 4 parts water
For the Arnold Palmer:
- Equal parts cold-brewed black tea and maple lemonade
- Ice
- Lemon wheels and fresh mint to garnish
For the spiked version (per drink):
- 1.5 oz vodka or bourbon
- Make the maple lemonade: Combine lemon juice, Pure Vermont Maple Syrup, and water. Stir until the maple is fully dissolved. Taste — it should be bright and balanced, with the maple rounding out the lemon without sweetening it flat.
- Brew the tea: Brew strong and chill completely. It gets diluted by ice and needs to hold its own against the lemonade.
- Build the Arnold Palmer: Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour equal parts cold tea and maple lemonade over the ice and stir once.
- Spike it: Add vodka or bourbon directly to the glass before stirring. Same pitcher works for a crowd — spike individual glasses and leave the rest as-is.
- Garnish: Lemon wheel and a sprig of mint.
- Batch it: Keep the tea and maple lemonade separate in the fridge. Combine at the glass so nothing gets diluted ahead of time.
Pro Tip: Brew the tea strong — it gets diluted by ice and needs to hold its own against the lemonade.
